5. THEO IN PLANO OFFERING SUMMER SAT PREP AND SUMMER ACTIVITIES

SAT Prep Clases:
Tuesday mornings beginning June 19
For high school students will be offered weekly from 9-12 on Tuesday mornings beginning June 19 and continuing every Tuesday through August 14. The final details will be posted on the web shortly, so watch for updates. The kids will move through four stations which expand their knowledge incrementally without making them feel like they have labored and lost their summer. I am thrilled with the concept we have built into this affordable weekly SAT prep class; I believe you will also be pleased with the results if your students participate.

Summer Activities for ages 13-15: Weekly Throughout the Summer
We have decided that students 13 to 15 years old endure some of their hardest summers. They are too young to work and yet too old to enjoy the activities that once captivated their elementary aged summer vacations. Because of this dilemma, we will offer field trips and activities for students weekly during June, July and August. Some will be service projects, but not all. We want them to have a chance to fellowship—playing games, doing art projects, watching movies, going on field trips and more.

Here are our proposed course offerings:

Grades 1-3
Readers' Theater I
Instructor Needed
You and your students are bound to love Readers’ Theater! Readers’ Theater is an activity in which students, while reading directly from scripts, are able to tell a story in a most entertaining form, without props, costumes, or sets. This is a reading activity, and students are not asked to memorize their lines. They are, however, encouraged to "ham it up" and use intonation and gestures appropriate to their characters
and their characters’ words.
Grades 4-6
Readers' Theater II
Reader's Theater II maintains the fun, non-threatening atmosphere of the first class, while challenging students to use their skills in problem solving and developing a sense of community. They will learn scripts of stories that reflect constitutional principles and concepts which can infuse the study of the U.S. Constitution. One of the goals is to develop the child's ability to see more than one side or point of view
regarding an issue or problem. (No prerequisite required.)

Grades 6-8
Junior Youth and Government
Junior Youth and Government is an exciting experience in the mechanics of the state legislative process of government. It provides opportunities for middle school youth to study and debate public issues, experience the Legislative branch of our state government, write legislation and participate in a Youth Legislature.
Grades 9-12
Youth and Government
Instructor Needed!
The purpose of the program is to bring the workings of state government alive to students. It creates an opportunity for student to discuss current state issues with state administrators, elected officials, and students from high schools and YMCA's throughout the state. Each conference is led by teens elected to office by their fellow delegates. Each state provides facilities and volunteers from various state
departments who act as resources for the students while they debate the issues. The volunteer help guide the students through mock committee meetings. Students debate and vote on the bills that their fellow delegates have written and presented. Bills that pass in committee are then taken to the floor of the House of Senate for full debate and vote.
Ages 12-18
Speech
Instructor Needed
The purpose of Speech club is to train and prepare students for Individual Event (IE) competition. The NCFCA offers 10 competitive speech events within three categories (Interpretations, Platform speeches and Limited Prep events) as follows:
Interpretations -- Dramatic, Humorous, Duo, Open
Platform - Oratory, Persuasive, Expository
Limited Preparation Events - Impromptu, Apologetics, Extemporaneous
Instruction on how to find, write and perform a good speech is provided at club near the beginning of the season. Students will choose appropriate literary pieces from good books or original literary works, depending on speech category.
Ages 12-18
Debate
The objective of the Debate club is to train and prepare students for debate tournaments. Students can choose either Team (policy) or Lincoln Douglas (values) debate. Meetings will include teaching time, small group exercises and practice time (with parent coaches), to develop debate skills as well as affirmative and negative cases for this year's NCFCA resolution.
Grades 9-12
Model United Nations
Instructor Needed!
Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and other multilateral bodies. In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization's agenda. While playing their roles as ambassadors, student "delegates" make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflict, and navigate the Model UN conference rules of procedure - all in the interest of mobilizing "international cooperation" to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world.
Grades 9-12
Instructor Needed!
Mock Trial
The program was created to help acquire a working knowledge of our judicial system, develop analytical abilities and communication skills, and gain an understanding of their obligations and responsibilities as participating members of our society. Each year, new Mock Trial materials are created based on an important issue facing America's youth. The materials include a hypothetical criminal case (including
summaries of case law, witness statements, official exhibits, and simplified rules of evidence); lesson plans on the central issue facing America's youth. Students actively experience the excitement of working in teams, exchanging ideas, setting goals, and examining issues while interacting with positive role models from their communities. By studying the case and preparing strategies and arguments for trial,
students also develop presentation skills, analytic ability, and team cooperation.

Come See Young Competitors Demonstrate Their Skills!!
We are very fortunate to have Suzanne Nasser, Administrator of Speak Out North Texas bringing Marshall Sherman who will do his Persuasive Speech on Parental Authority (the speech which won him 1st place in the Region in Persuasive) and his humorous interpretation entitled Lone Stranger. Also presenting is Alan Carrillo, a two-time IRON MAN at the National Tournament demonstrating his skill at Impromptu. Alan will have 30 seconds to prepare a speech on a topic we select. John Ehrett, Adam Nasser, Alan Carrillo and Samantha Nasser will be demonstrating their award-winning skills at Team Policy Debate on this year's topic "Resolved: That the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) should be significantly reformed or abolished."

Volunteers Needed!
Experience in debate is not required because a successful club needs the contribution of many talents.

30. RODGER’S AND HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA AT BASS HALL
JULY 10 – 15
Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical fairy tale CINDERELLA is coming to the Bass Performance Hall. In this classic tale, poor Cinderella is endlessly abused by her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. With a wave of her wand, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother transforms an ordinary pumpkin into a magnificent coach and Cinderella’s rags into a gorgeous gown, then sends her off to the Royal Ball. But Cinderella’s enchanted evening must end when the spell is broken at midnight. Originally produced as a television special starring Julie Andrews and later innovatively adapted for the stage, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA features the hit songs “Ten Minutes Ago,” “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible,” and “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful.” It will take the perfect fit into a glass slipper for this fairy tale ending! 31. COW APPRECIATION DAY AT CHICK-FIL-A

JULY 13 --- Come Fully Dressed as a Cow and Get a Free Combo Meal

Q: What is Cow Appreciation Day?
A: For one day only, black and white spots, cow bells and furry ears will be appropriate attire in the nation’s second largest chicken chain. In celebration of July 13, Cow Appreciation Day, an unofficial – yet nationally recognized holiday, Chick-fil-A will award a free combo meal (breakfast, lunch or dinner) to any customer who comes to one of the chain’s 1,200-plus restaurants fully dressed as a cow.
Q: What does “fully dressed as a cow” really mean?
A: “Fully dressed like a cow” means effort to be dressed like a cow from head to toe. “Partial cow attire” means just a cow accessory, such as a cow-printed hat, vest or purse.
Q: Which Combos can be redeemed?
A: Appropriately dressed customers may select any breakfast, lunch or dinner Combo. Kids who are “fully dressed like a cow” may request a Kid’s Meal if desired. Breakfast Combo includes breakfast Entrée (Chicken Biscuit; Chick-n-Minis™ (3-count); Chicken or Sausage Burrito; Chicken, Egg, and Cheese Bagel; or Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit), hash browns, and small beverage. Breakfast items may not be served at all locations and are served during breakfast hours only. Lunch or dinner Combo includes Entrée (Sandwich, Cool Wrap®, Nuggets, or Chick-n-Strips™), medium Waffle Potato Fries™, and medium beverage.
Q: Which Entrées can be redeemed?
A: Appropriately dressed customers may select any breakfast, lunch or dinner Entrée.
Q: Where do I get a cow costume?
A: You can buy a cow costume at a local costume retailer or have some fun with this summer project by making one at home. Here are some ideas:
1. Start with items that you already have at home – cow-printed accessories stashed in your closet will work perfectly. Hats, vests, scarves, neckties, pants, shoes, pajamas – just abut any cow-spotted item will work. Just make sure you’re covered heat to toe. 2. Wear white, and then just add spots. Throw on a white T-shirt with white pants (even sweatpants) and stick on your spots using black contact paper. If contact paper is not easily accessible, you can cut spots out of construction paper and tape them to your shirt and pants. If nothing else, you can grab an old white T-shirt and color black spots all over it with a magic marker – and you’ll still get a free entrée. 3. Go to your local paint or hardware store and get a white painter’s hat and overalls. And then decorate yourself with spots made out of contact or construction paper. 4. Not feeling too creative and want an easy costume? Search the Internet for “cow costumes” and you will be flooded with full-body costumes available for purchase. (And hey, you’ll be set for Halloween, too).
Q: Can I still redeem the Combo if I just wear a cow hat?
A: Customers who arrive with “partial cow attire” will receive one free Entree. “Partial cow attire” means just a cow accessory, such as a cow-printed hat, vest or purse. Decision is at the discretion of the restaurant Operator.
